Los Angeles Kings prospect Maxim Kitsyn and his Mississauga St. Michael’s Majors are off to the semi-finals in the 2011 Memorial Cup where they will play either the Owen Sound Attack or the Kootenay Ice on Friday night.
In the final round-robin game last night, host Mississauga defeated the Owen Sound Attack, who they had lost to in a gruelling seven-game Ontario Hockey League championship final just a few weeks ago. The Majors won last night’s tilt by a 3-1 score and Kitsyn helped out with an assist en route to the victory, adding to his one goal he had scored the previous game.
Mississauga finishes the round-robin portion of the Memorial Cup with a 2-1 record and will now wait to see who wins the tiebreaker, which will take place tonight at Mississauga’s Hershey Center between the aforementioned Attack and Ice, who earned a spot in the tournament as champions of the Western Hockey League.
Best of luck to Maxim Kitsyn and his team on Saturday.
