Today in Slovakia, it was a battle of the Kings' backups: former vs. current. Jonathan Bernier suited up for Canada in goal while Erik Ersberg got the call for his native Sweden.
While both goaltenders played great, it was Jonathan Bernier who came out on the winning end as Canada won 3-2 finishing the round-robin segment of the World Hockey Championships at a perfect 6-0.
With the win, the Canadians will play Russia in the quarter-final set for Wednesday. As for the United States, they lost to Switzerland 5-3 today to finish at 2-2-1. Despite the loss, they will face the Czech Republic in their quarter-final. In the game, Jack Johnson had a -3 rating with a penalty and no points.
As for Slovakia, despite defeating Denmark 4-1 today, they failed to advance to the elimination round as they finish 1-4. In the win, Michal Handzus picked up an assist.
So the round-robin is now officially in the books. It's an off-day tomorrow as the fun continues on Wednesday.
