Like Scott Mayfield ranked just one position higher, Joel Edmundson is another 6’4 defenseman who has the ability to use his size to his advantage. His 191-pound frame may not seem intimidating but, playing for the Moose Jaw Warriors of the WHL, Edmundson has shown that he’s not afraid to drop the gloves with anyone. In his 71 games for Moose Jaw last season, Edmunson registered 2 goals and 18 assists.
Joel Edmunson is a big, tough defenseman who is a constant physical presence who is very effective both in front of his own net and along the boards.
On the downside, Edmunson is known to have limited skills and hockey sense but regardless, he will need a few years of seasoning before he can think about making the jump to the pro level, at which point, he may serve as a strong physical asset in a fifth or sixth defenseman role.
